Biarne (Bjarni) arrives in North America.

(ca.) The son of Herjulf, he sails from Iceland and is thought to be the first European to visit North America. According to Norse legend, he intended to follow his father to Greenland, but is “driven by an adverse wind.” He subsequently does make his way to Greenland, but according to George Dexter, only after seeing “new and strange lands three distinct times.”
